home producer of the year and three in the rock categories. fun made a splash this year, as well. the trio won two grammys including best new artist and song of the year. >> and the grammy goes to "we are young." >> she said we and we were like, could it be us? do you remember? >> we are -- it still could have been we are never getting back together. >> reporter: gotye took home three grammys. it was hard to tell if he was more excited for the statues or his idol prince presented for the record of the year. >> a little bit loss for words receiving an award from the man behind me. i was inspired to make music. thank you. >> reporter: the trophies are nice but it's usually the performances that the fans end up remembering the most. ♪ [ music ]♪ taylor swift got things started with a mad hatter ren decision of her hit single, we are never

getting back together. ♪ [ music ]♪ >> reporter: and what better way to make a comeback, justin timberlake used the industry's biggest stage to relaunch his music career. >> and frank, the good times sure carried on after the show. the official grammys after- party was a theme for "bollywood." they had belly dancers, gymnasts, good food. i'm sure the party carried on. >> sounds like you had a long night, too, or some fun. teresa, tell us about some of the interesting collaborations that happened on stage. they actually grouped some performers together that you wouldn't put together normally. >> reporter: it was interesting. alicia keys performed with maroon 5 and she was playing the drum before she performed

her girl on fire song. that was cool to see. miranda lambert with dirk bentley, bruno mars, sting, they did a tribute to bob marley. they also had some marley family members up on stage including ziggy marley. so that was cool. a lot of size and ranges of music that all came together. it was really all about the music. >> big night for music. big night for cbs, too. teresa garcia live in l.a., thank you. >> we'll check in with liam mayclem live in about 35 minutes. we'll have more on the grammys at cbssf.com. police in southern california are still looking for the ex-police officer they say has already killed three people. it's been eight days since police say christopher dorner killed his first two victims. lapd was on high alert for last

night's grammy show. los angeles officials also announced a $1 million reward. it comes as the search for the former cop winds down in the mountains east of l.a. meantime, l.a.'s police chief has reopened an investigation into the circumstances of dorner's firing. >> he was to give himself up, we would be glad to listen to what he has to say. >> dorner claims he was fired for roaring a fellow officer for excessive fors. the last clue investigators have of dorner's whereabouts was thursday when they found his burned pickup truck near a mountain resort. it is 5:06. the man suspected in killing of a 13-year-old suisun city girl is due back in court on wednesday. anthony lamar jones of fairfield was arrested friday. he is suspected of killing genelle conway allen whose naked body was found a week earlier in fairfield's allan witt park. restraining order documents obtained by the fairfield daily republic suggests jones had grown increasingly violent in

the days right before the murder. in the documents, jones he is strained wife described an incident which she -- the two were together in a car. "anthony looked at me and said, i don't want to scare you but i have a knife and a gun and i don't want to die alone." she said at that point, she jumped out of the moving car. the restraining order against jones was issued february 1, the day conway allen's body was found. there are no arrests for a deadly shooting in the cambrian neighborhood of santa clara county. a man was found shot to death on rhonda drive yesterday afternoon. another man showed up at goodman hospital at about -- good samaritan hospital at about the same time. he had been wounded in the same shooting. he is expected to your is "survivor." palo alto police are looking for this armed robbery suspect described as a black male in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5'8", with a thin build. he robbed a man at gunpoint saturday in the carport of an apartment complex near west bayshore road. detectives are also

investigating possible links to another armed robbery back in january. oakland is trying several strategies hoping to curb crime in their city. among them community forums and workshops all part of the safe oakland program for the community to have some input. the program, in addition to newly hired police consultant bill bratton a former police chief in l.a. and new york. >> mr. bratton, when he comes in, is going to be focusing on improvements in the police department including intelligence, investigative capability, including how personnel are assigned. >> in addition, more police officers are being trained in an effort to increase patrols in the city. 5:08 right now. let's get another look at the weather. >> looks good all week, i think. >> gorgeous weekend in the bay area. weather by the end of the week may be 70. a taste of spring coming. would love to see the rain but

if you can't get the rain, get the sunshine. that's what we are going to see again today although it's a chilly start to the day out the door. it's freezing in santa rosa at 32. 34 in the napa. 34 livermore more. patchy fog out there again. high pressure huge ridge on the west coast. this is what we have seen almost since january. looks like it's going to stick around for the better part the week and get an offshore wind by the end of the week. of course that will crank up the temperatures. outside today around seasonal for this time of year. usually we are in the 50s and 60s. that's the way it's going to play out give or take a few degrees. it looks like it's going to be a nice afternoon, cool at the coast and warmer days ahead. we'll talk about that in a moment. elizabeth? >> feeling good out there. out on the roads, things are moving pretty much like they should be on a typical monday morning. here's a live look at the san mateo bridge where it should be about a 14-minute drive time between hayward and foster city. on the maps we'll update you on

a couple of different incidents. lane closures at second and brannan. for the next three weeks one lane of the embarcadero will be closed between second and brannan so expect delays through march. all lanes open northbound 880 approaching highway 92. that accident is now clear. that's traffic. michelle and frank, back to you. >> thank you. texas governor rick perry is in california trying to lure away businesses while a high- profile tech company is setting up shop in silicon valley. kpix 5 reporter elissa harrington is in sunnyvale where go daddy is opening an office. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, michelle. this latest push follows n ad that was just released by texas officials trying to lure california businesses to texas. here's part of it. >> building a business is tough but i hear building a business in california is next to am possible. >> governor perry is in california trying to lure

companies to set up shot in texas especially with record high taxes. some of his selling points include no income tax in texas and labor laws are more lenient. some bay area companies like facebook and ebay have already set up campuses there although their headquarters remain here in the bay area. perry will stop in san francisco, the silicon valley and los angeles. now, despite perry's efforts, governor brown does not seem to be too worried. >> should i liken it as standing by the ocean? no, it's a big nothing. a lot of texans who come here don't go back. >> reporter: texas is home to many fortune 500 companies. go daddy will open in sunnyvale later on today. 5:11.

the accident happened yesterday afternoo ilton a corvette goes off a cliff in the east san jose foothills yesterday afternoon on the mount hamilton road. they found the convertible buried in the brush. chp sent a chopper from napa to rescue the driver, who has some head injuries. specialized rescue crews from san jose as fire department were called in to fix ropes and extricate the driver all while battling a lot of difficulties. >> access problems, steepness, the injuries to the patient, getting him out of the car at that level. >> took about two hours to bring the driver to the road surface. he was then flown to a trauma center. as for the corvette, its windshield is crushed on the driver's side. it took several hours to lift that up and get it out of the ravine, as well. >> scary. >> guess so. >> 5:15 right now. let's get a check on the roads. >> water, table 5.

>> i know. you want my water? i got it. >> slipping in the studios. as far as the roads go, we are checking in with caltrans now to see if this overnight roadwork is still going on, on the richmond/san rafael bridge. overnight they had lanes blocked westbound 580 approaching the toll plaza. of the it was scheduled to wrap up by 5:00 so it looks like it should be gone now. we'll let you know in our next traffic report for sure if it's completely gone. down the eastshore freeway, westbound 80 not too bad through berkeley towards the macarthur maze. and mass transit so far all on time. everything is reporting no delay for bart, muni, caltrain and ace. let's check a couple of our live traffic cameras. here's a live look across the bay bridge toll plaza. an easy commute across the upper deck into san francisco.

>> delays in the overnight hours all week long. they have wrapped up it for this morning. but again, that roadwork continues tonight. that is a check of your time- saver traffic. exciting about these temperatures especially by the end of the week. >> i know what happened to you guys last night with your throats. it was the grammys. you guys were singing too loud. >> ha! >> i like that. very good. folks, around the bay area today, it's mostly clear outside. it's going to be a frosty start to the day in many of the valleys temperatures running in the 30s and 40s. by the afternoon we have plenty of sunshine all the way to the coastline. it will be cool toward the beaches. and mainly in the upper 50s there but you will find 60s elsewhere inside the bay and the valleys. huge dome of high pressure building in again sticking around for the better part of the week keeping us dry all week long. in fact, by the end of the week we could see some temperatures getting near 70 with an offshore wind. a dry mild week ahead. it will be chilly in the

morning but other than that nice weather to enjoy. temperatures will be in the 60s into the central valley, about 39 degrees in lake tahoe. 44 in yosemite. sunshine this afternoon and 62 degrees in san jose. a little cool in pacifica at 59. east bay temperatures, 62 benicia, 62 degrees in the napa valley. 62 alameda, 61 san francisco. next couple of days, we may cool off slightly for tomorrow but then warming up come wednesday. thursday, friday and saturday, here we go. some of those temperatures near 70 degrees. >> 70. >> yeah. gorgeous. >> that's great. >> i wish it would rain but what are you going to do? >> no, no. >> go back to your room. parts of his state at a. the twister went through hattiesburg yesterday. it caused damage in three counties but no reports of major injuries. police there declared a stat of emergency and asked all students not on campus to stay away from the university for the time being. in the northeast, nearly 150,000 hopes and businesses remain without power after that massive snowstorm over the weekend. most of them are in massachusetts. emergency shelters remain open for those without heat or electricity. >> the power went out. they said if they can get here it's an easy fix. >> americans were pelted with more than 3 feet of snow. 15 deaths are linked to the storm. crews are still clearing the roads. the boston area's public transportation system is set to resume full service today. 5:19 now. a carnival cruise ship is left adrift in the gulf of mexico. thanks to several emergency

generators on board, the 4,000 people still have electricity. good news there. all started in the engine room. nobody was injured. a tugboat is on its way now to rescue the cruise liner which is expected to reach near the port of progresso sometime on wednesday. a tragedy strikes a reality show near los angeles. a helicopter crashed outside of acton sunday morning killing three people. they were all taking part in a new military-style show for the discovery channel when that accident happened. federal aviation authorities are now investigating. a republican senator is threatening to delay the confirmation of two of president obama's appointees. senator lindsey graham may hold up the nominations of brennan and hagel. they want to force the white house to answer questions about last year's attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi. >> i want to know what our president did, what did he do as commander-in-chief.

did he ever pick up the phone and call anybody? i think this is stuff that the country needs to know. >> republicans have accused the administration of misleading the public about the attack. a spokesman for the white house national security council says senators should not play politics with crucial nominations. president obama's state of the union address is expected to focus on the economy. he is set to address job creation and wage growth tomorrow night. the president says he will also discuss upcoming budget fights including the march 1 dead alone for automatic defense and domestic cuts known as the sequester. coming up, some big waves down at pebble beach. would anyone catch brandt snedeker? >> plus a no-look pass for the dunk the play of the day coming up. >> and celebrating music's biggest night. we have more highlights from the 55th annual grammy awards coming up.

this morning announcing he is resigning his position as the head of the catholic church effective at the end of the month. the 85-year-old leader says he is too weak to continue. right now there are several contenders in the weeks but no front-runner. a professor of sociology at catholic university of america says they saw this coming. >> it is a surprise but on the other hand, in the past pope benedict has indicated if he did not have the strength to exercise the ministry as is needed, that he might step down. so he did leave some indications if he felt in the situation that he seems to be in now that he would take this course of action. >> here's an expert of the pope's statement. after having repeatedly examined my conscience before god, i have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the petrine ministry. both strength of mind and body

house. the best in the music business picked up trophies at the grammys. they were handed out last night in l.a. it was a great show. album of the year presented by adele to fellow british musicians mumford & sons. >> there's a few of us out there and the grammys have opened their arms to us and we are grateful to this country and the grammy foundation to be so welcoming to us and our music. about 62 in walnut creek. then as you sneak inside the bay we'll find sunshine about 61 in san francisco. about 59 degrees a little cooler into sausalito. warmer days ahead. we'll have more on that in a moment. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> thank you, lawrence. outside now we'll show you a live look at conditions in the south bay and so far, so good all of our drive time sensors moving around the limit. they are going to be activating those metering lights on northbound 280 from downtown san jose beginning tomorrow morning. so tuesday. that's when they activate those lights. in the meantime, getting a check of some east bay drive types, so far about 22 minutes coming through the altamont pass. it's starting to get slow from 205 towards tracy heading into livermore. looks like about north livermore avenue that's where we're seeing some slowdowns and a quick check on the peninsula heading southbound 101 down towards sfo, things still moving at the limit towards candlestick. that's traffic. back to you guys. >> thank you. the governor of texas is in

california this week trying to convince businesses that the lone star state is a better place to set up shop. kpix 5 reporter elissa harrington is in sunnyvale where go daddy is opening some new offices. >> reporter: good morning. this follows a 30-second ad that was just launched that says texas is wide open for business. >> building a business is tough. but i hear building a business in california is next to impossible! >> reporter: that's part of that ad. texas wants california businesses. officials are hoping that businesses will be lured there as californians face record high taxes. governor perry will visit san francisco the silicon valley and los angeles this week. he is going to met with companies to give his pitch. part of that, there's no income tax in texas. and labor and environmental laws are more lenient. california has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country at 9.8%. now, while it might be unlikely for existing businesses to move, perry will also be targeting startups and large

companies that might want to open a branch in texas. for example, facebook and ebay are headquartered in the bay area. but they have campuses in texas. chevron also just moved 800 jobs to houston. governor brown is not taking perry's visit too seriously. >> a lot of these texans they comer who they don't go back. who would want to spend you know their summers in 110- degree heat inside some kind of a fossil fueled air- conditioner? not a smart way to go. >> still there's a lot of reasons that companies continue opening up in california including go daddy.com. i'm outside of their silicon valley headquarters, their first building here in california. they are an arizona-based company so there will be 40 jobs here now in the silicon valley and they say they want to be here because they want to be in the tech hub of the country. reporting live in sunnyvale, elissa harrington, kpix 5.

going to hit 70 this week. >> everybody is going to wan to move back to california. this is going to be the place to be. next couple of days temperatures not bad. today a little cold. freezing in some of the valleys. 30s and 40s by the afternoon. 50s coastside plenty of sunshine and low 60s inside the bay. and many spots in the valleys in the 60s. high pressure building in overhead, a permanent ridge. this has been a semi permanent feature since the beginning of january. we saw all the rain shut off and head well to the north. we are going to see that for this week as we'll see some very mild conditions and staying dry all week long. it's going to be heating up the latter part of the week with an offshore wind some of the temperatures near 70. no delays at sfo. showers into houston at 70. snow in the denver 37.

upon snow into chicago, as well. rain in new york could cause flooding. they will have to watch out for that later on today. sunny skies, 69 in pacifica. low 60s in the interior valleys. 63 degrees in santa rosa, 59 in sausalito. next couple of days, the temperatures going to flux wait a little bit cooling down tomorrow slightly and then we'll start to warm up and as we get into thursday and friday and the weekend, looking good. some of those temperatures soaring into the upper 60s almost 70 degrees. >> i like it. i'm even more excited for friday. outside now, take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. looks like we're seeing some slight delays in some of the outer cash lanes. if you are a fast track user this is the time to go because you can see there is no delay this those middle lanes no metering lights yet either. dublin interchange westbound 580 picking up towards 680

>> i'm michelle griego. time now just about 6:00. breaking introduces from the vatican, pope benedict xvi is stepping down. >> alan pizzey is in rome with more on this. >> reporter: benedict xvi announced his resignation came as a surprise to pane but told a couple of his closest aides several weeks ago that he was going to do this. they kept it quiet. the pope said he did this after a period of deep reflection and conversations with god, a lot of praying and he felt it was the right thing to do. a papal spokesman said there is no specific health reason, no specific reason of pressure on the papacy that made him decide to do this. he thought unlike others who soldiered on to the end he felt the work was too important to carry on in a weakened stated so he decided to resign. that resignation is official at 8 p.m. rome time on february 28th.
